Explore how a culturally responsive curriculum empowers Black male youth to strengthen mental health, adopt healthy coping strategies, and build positive networks. Experience how organized play and peer-led campaigns transform prevention into action, equipping participants with tools to foster resilience, reduce risky behaviors, and create lasting impact in schools and communities.
Learning Objectives
1. Participants will be able to identify at least three evidence-based strategies from the Black Boys Better curriculum that strengthen positive networks and reduce risky behaviors among Black male youth.
2. Participants will be able to design one activity that integrates organized play and peer-led campaigns into their own youth program, as measured by a draft outline shared in the workshop.

Kristi James
DrPH(c), MPH, CHES
Kristi James, DrPH(c), MPH, CHES is a public health leader, consultant, and health equity advocate with more than 15 years of experience in community health education, strategic partnerships, and public health communication. Currently pursuing a Doctor of Public Health in Health Policy and Management, she specializes in designing community-centered trainings, leading cross-sector collaborations, and developing human-centered frameworks that strengthen public health systems and reduce health disparities. Kristi serves as Chief Health Officer for Creative Connections and leads the program evaluation and strategic planning for the Black Boys Better program, focusing on Black male youth mental wellness. She has led health initiatives with organizations including the American Public Health Association, the American Heart Association, and the Fulton County Board of Health. Her work focuses on public health workforce development, mental health, health equity, leadership development, and community-based program evaluation.
