Law as a Social Determinant of Health: What Health Educators Need to Know

This webinar will provide health educators with a foundational understanding of the role of law in advancing public health in the 21st Century. Speakers will explore law as a social determinant of health, the impact of the recent declarations of racism as a public health issue, current efforts to limit public health authorities, and ways law can be used as a tool in health education and promotion.  At the heart of this microlearning, is an opportunity for participants to gain a better understanding of how the law impacts health and health equity. 

Learning Objectives:

1. Describe at least three ways law serves as a foundation for Public Health. 

2. Identify five ways efforts to limit or diminish public health authority in disease management exacerbate the impact of illnesses (5.1.3). 

3. List at least three ways law serves as a social determinant of health (5.1.1).
