Participants will learn best practices for sustaining workforce development through academic–practice partnerships. Participants will enhance skills in data interpretation, communication, and evidence-based decision-making, thereby improving their capacity to address health inequities. The presentation will demonstrate that by interdisciplinary collaboration, professionals can effectively leverage data modernization efforts to improve population health outcomes and advance health equity.
By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Upon completion of this session, the participant will be able to identify and select hands-on, interactive activities that provide health practitioners with opportunities to apply data modernization skills.
- Upon completion of this session, participants will have knowledge of data systems required for data-driven decision making, health literacy, community-informed surveillance, and innovative strategies for health equity

Dorothy C. Browne, DrPH, MPH, MSW

Dorothy C. Browne is a public health researcher, educator, and mentor with more than 35 years of experience in health equity, workforce development, and community-engaged research. A former tenured faculty member at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, she co-founded the Minority Health Project and led federally funded research on health disparities. She later served as the inaugural dean of the Jackson State University School of Public Health. Dr. Browne is currently a Senior Research Scientist at Shaw University and a member of the HBCU Health Equity Data Consortium, partnering with NC DHHS to strengthen the public health workforce through data modernization training, research capacity building, and mentoring future public health leaders.
Jill Keith, PhD

Winston-Salem State University
Dr. Keith is Professor of Biochemistry at Winston-Salem State University and Interim Director of the Biomedical Research Infrastructure Center (BRIC). She also serves as an Adjunct Professor at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. She is committed to STEM education, mentorship, and workforce development, with research interests in central nervous system disorders, regenerative medicine, and the development of innovative therapeutics and molecular probes. She has mentored students and early-career faculty. In addition, she is recognized for strengthening STEM participation and research capacity at HBCUs. Dr. Keith is also a member of the HBCU Health Equity Data Consortium, supporting health equity research and public health workforce development across North Carolina.
