Using Technology for Curricular Mapping in Health Education Specialist Preparation Programs

Speakers: Jordan Miller, MPH, MCHES® and Charity Bishop, MA, CHES®
Presenters from two different universities will share their curricular mapping and assessment processes to the Responsibilities and Competencies for Health Education Specialists. Each presenter will share experiences defining assessment parameters, identifying outcome measures, mobilizing faculty support, and compiling findings for dissemination for internal assessment and accreditation. Experiences with creating systems for measuring and reporting on student learning outcomes will be discussed. Technologies used to support curriculum mapping and assessment will be explored. Practical applications of REDCap® and Canvas for curricular assessment and reporting will be explained. The process of updating curricular assessment processes to align with renewed HESPA measures will be described.

Jordan Miller, DrPH, MCHES, is a Teaching Professor at Arizona State University, where she has taught for nine years. She is currently Program Director for the Population Health MS, and she also teaches in the undergraduate Health Education and Health Promotion program. Her areas of expertise include digital health communication, coalition building and advocacy, and diabetes education. She has a professional passion for experiential and applied learning, and she enjoys mentoring and advising students. When she is not working, she is spending time in nature, playing with her dog, and rediscovering her love of photography.
